Before diving into March’s outlook, a short word of explanation
about the terms “feminine” and “masculine.” These terms refer to
the implicit, underlying principles within all creation, rather than to
gender. We can see these principles in everything our minds can
focus on: people in our lives, weather patterns, market trends,
psychological traits, relationship habits, and more. Everything in
creation is composed of the Primal Pair of Femininity and Masculinity
formed together in unique ways. Again, gender is not implied when
you see these words used. With that, welcome to…
MARCH 2008
March’s Masculine
March will bring a distinctly different quality of the Masculine. On the
16th Mars trines Venus letting us know that this is a great time for
exploring how the Masculine and Feminine inside of us can
communicate and support one another. This might look like a
romantic dinner with your sweety, a choice to (finally) share your
feelings with courage and honesty, an investment in an
entrepreneur’s start-up, or the inner resolve to leave an unsupportive
relationship. For those who work within themselves at a deep level,
this is a great time for practices involving the inner union, known for
millennia as the Sacred Marriage or hierosgamos. For two people, this
trine in Water represents a wonderful opportunity to explore deeper
intimacy, whether that be sharing things you’ve been unable to
before, physical intimacy or starting a monthly couples social group.
The Mars Journey
From the seat of the Masculine, the influence of Venus can create any
number of situations from a listening, caring friend, to legal counsel,
to a psychotherapist (in some instances), to a former lover, even to a
mother-type energy at times. It can also just as easily show up as a
softening of impulsiveness. However the Feminine principle is
showing up in your life now, from the perspective of your Inner
Masculine this transit issues a reminder to include his feelings, to
include the Other or to include Her in his actions. As He has no doubt
already tasted the experience of through you, His courage,
assertiveness and presence is enhanced greatly by Her. (Remember,
these are both You!)
As we saw last month, February brought our Masculine out of the
horns of the Great Bull and symbolized the power we might wield
when we act with assurance. March seems to be filling in the next
event. Through March Mars will exit the Great Bull and re-enter the
stars of the Twins, Castor and Pollux (having been there before
retrograding). He will come to cross the star Mebsuta, the knee of
Castor. Castor is understood as one-half of duality, which the Twin
pair as a unified image represents. Castor’s domain is the optimistic
‘half-full’ view of life, also standing for ungrounded, over-positive
ideas and naiveté. We might see this manifest as taking action
toward something we hope or wish to be true in the spirit of a positive
outcome. But we may find that such an outlook is oftentimes woken
up by a more pragmatic reality. In the last week of the month,
ensure that your positivism is met by equal parts intelligent timing and
sufficient preparation. Merely dipping your toe into your destiny is
generally not how it manifests, nor does it prove much fun having to
disentangle yourself from sticky situations! Instead, take action in
the direction of what feels most drawing your imagination while
remaining internally mindful of another side to the story or
consequence of your actions (the Twins as duality).
Mars’ spatial journey through the stars of the Twins continues through
mid-May, so I thought it perhaps helpful to describe this combination
of Mars and the Twins from both a horoscope view (the astrology
chart) and the sky narrative of the two.
Horoscopically, Mars will be in the sign of Cancer throughout March.
For our purposes, this creates ‘action based on emotion’, which is
neither negative nor positive. It can point to greater defensiveness –
once again, neither good or bad; this might appear as a stronger
commitment to defend or speak up for what you feel is most
important. Mars in Cancer also reflects our readiness to feel our
passion, our desire, our drive and perhaps share that with others
personally or professionally. Cancerian Mars also taps us into our
biological need to know our lineage, where we come from, and to feel
connected to it by defending our family name or familial
predecessors. Mars in Cancer drives us to explore what/where/how
that connection has meaning for us. It is for this reason that
emotions may go more unchecked in March and manifest as
emotionally-driven actions and speech. And this might be just what
the karmic doctor ordered, if we’ve been keeping ourselves away
from our attention-grabbing, ‘messy’ emotions for too long.
Visually, Mars with Mebsuta in the Twins is pointing to something
important. Many in metaphysics today strongly affirm that a positive
sense of self and of life directly support successful manifestation
because they create a magnetic that can draw to you what you want.
But you may not have developed the ‘skill’ or conscious ability to
appropriately respond to what life presents us in response to your
prayers/intentions. For example, just because we practice our
manifestation exercises or prayers for our life's work to be made
known to us, does not mean we have the capacity to appropriately
deal with our body's physiologic crises which ensue.
So it is that Life will often require a certain ‘skill’ from us to apply in a
given situation. If we have not fashioned that tool though, an
opportunity may be missed or worse, a bridge may be burned.
Examples of such tools or skills requested of us by Life might be:
prolonged patience, knowing what is yours and what isn’t (to react
to), holding your tongue, speaking your truth sans blame or shame,
or sustaining a larger view of the situation while present to the
immediate dynamics.
Together then we can see that with a cultivated, conscious emotional
availability to all that Life presents us will we be able to move
joyously forward in our dharma.
March’s Feminine
The Feminine in March will begin to put form to the rumblings of
deeper waters within us. These waters aren’t normal tricklings or on-
again off-again interests, but the very Waters of Spiritspark we are
each imbued with.
The Venus Journey
The Queen’s Descent Phase continues the Venus Journey this month.
On the 5th is the next Surrendering of one facet of the Goddess’
body. The focus for this surrender is our freedom. Examine the ways
in which you and we as a collective have handed over our inner
autonomy, our right to create our own happiness and peace, to
another person, organization, ideal, or memory. Once identified,
visualize yourself – all of yourself if you please, not just your higher
aspects – going to that person, that group, that ideal or that memory
to acknowledge how you’ve done so in the past. This is called,
naming your actions. Next, generate an authentic feeling of gratitude
for them, then for yourself, and finally for the roles played to bring
you to this very moment of reclamation. Finally, see and feel the
connectors to them releasing with every wave of gratitude you
somatically send their way. A wise woman once taught, “There can be
more freedom found in a prison, than in the widest vista.”
For this Surrendering on the 5th, Venus will be in Aquarius, shifting
into Pisces for the latter half of the month. This is the Transpersonal
Feminine, the Mother of Love, the Queen of Compassion, White
Tara, Saraswati (as the River of All Knowledge) and Kuan Yin. It is
she who mirrors our timelessness, our deep vision and oneness with
all Life. Whenever we are internally silent and heartfully focused on
the spiritual realm of our being – such as through meditation – we
reside in her domain.
Joining Venus that day is a truly inspirational line-up of planets:
Chiron, Mercury, Moon, Neptune and the NorthNode from 17° to 27°
of Aquarius. This is the full picture of what will be occurring within our
collective Feminine psyche at this time. We might summarize this
array of energies as “a Feminine means of opening our hearts and
minds to the vastness of Life.” What is this uniquely Feminine
means? It is being willing to deeply and nakedly hear what Life is
asking of us and, once heard, to allow that knowing to permeate into
our cellular reality. It means remaining mindful not to let doubt and
reasons-why-not cloud our reception. In other words, it is not what we
believe or feel about such things that has much weight at this level, but
that which is actually, realistically being presented to us by the
Universe. This can be known in every moment. It is this realm of
evolutionary seed that we can tend to at this time.
Venus, Neptune at the powerful tail of Capricornus
The location for this stellium of planets
is the center of the powerful
tail of the
Goat-Fish constellation. This
constellation originates the sign of
Capricorn. This is a place of
tremendous force and endurance
because it is here that the first ideas of
a savior of humanity were
attributed to
the stars.1 This is a place where the
power to take
charge and wisely lead
can have life-saving results. Distinct from
Venus’ meeting last month
with Jupiter in the gaze of the Archer’s
arrow depicting a fully-focused
Feminine, here we have the Feminine
thoroughly ensuring She has
the strength to endure the journey
ahead and return safely. This
bodes well for what will come next,
when She disappears below the
horizon and enters the seven weeks
of Her Transmutational
Underworld (May to mid-July 2008).
The window of March 4-6 is a good time to sit in meditation and open
to your highest aspects so that they can become seeded in your physical,
emotional and mental bodies. Once ‘planted’ there, turn your inner
attention to the next 6 months and invoke any support you require
for what that time will bring. In the ensuing months, lovingly let go of
what shows up for its inner curtain call, and courageously embrace
what may seem at first to be foreign or different. Be willing to say YES
to an unknown future if it touches your heart with fun, conviction and
enthusiasm. There is no outer guide for this process – no teacher,
book, or training – better suited to identify where you’re headed…you
were born for the position!
