Before diving into February’s outlook, a short word of explanation
about the terms “feminine” and “masculine.” These terms refer to
the implicit, underlying principles within all creation, rather than to
gender. We can see these principles in everything our minds can
focus on: people in our lives, weather patterns, market trends,
psychological traits, relationship habits, and more. Everything in
creation is composed of the Primal Pair of Femininity and Masculinity
formed together in unique ways. Again, gender is not implied when
you see these words used. With that, welcome to…
FEBRUARY 2008
February is a month for ensuring your resources are there enough to
support further moving in the direction we know we need to.
Resources can come in ALL shapes and sizes, both internally and
externally. Outcomes too! What’s your highest outcome? A new
partner? A new home? Easier access to your innate happiness? Even
if the picture-perfect result hasn’t filled into the picture-frame you
are creating for it, this month’s the time to make some real steps.
They will be steps you may have known about – either mentally or
intuitively – from November. Since then, the end result or the steps
to get there may simply have been playing ‘hide and seek’ during
December and only last month arrived the feeling or clarity that
that’s really what’s in your heart to do.
February’s Masculine
From the place of the Masculine, February sees us in the middle of
the Integration Phase of the Mars Journey, known more specifically in
the Soulsign work as Re-Surgence (see diagram). The Re-Surgence
sub-phase is the cosmic motivation for the collective Masculine to
strongly re-assert itself into creation, only made possible after the
Transcendence Phase (which occurred on Christmas Eve, 2007 and described here).
But it will not do so in the old way: it is no longer
operating from an exclusively “I” position as if with
blinders on to the
presence and influence of others. Rather, the
Masculine’s
re-assertion now includes a growing interest in the Other,
the group, the collective, the social need. And for the rest of this
Journey of Mars, this will become the dominating internal driver of our
collective Masculine consciousness as a whole – to increasingly take a
broader position, with longer views of a situation so as to eventually
step into authentic leadership with real wisdom.
The Mars Journey
February begins with Mars’ stationing direct, or turning around to
resume his forward motion which he’ll do at 24° Gemini, very close to
the Galactic Exit point. A few days later, Mars will cross GE. The GE is
the place in our skies which marks directly opposite to Galactic Center
and symbolizes many things, one of which is how Souls enter or exit
this galaxy when incarnating. (Interpretations vary widely among and
between cultures and astrologers from different ages).
A useful way to understand this unique location given this event is to
see an opportunity to turn around to the destiny that really matters –
our Soul and its Desire – or, to turn to the center of ourselves and
cellularly realign from there. (For a simple, elegant meditation
technique for cultivating this cellular realignment, see the suggested
links below). As Mars stations direct, we will feel in our lives the turn-
around in renewed drive and heightened energy for ‘doing.’ If your
birth chart is sensitized to this position in the zodiac, you may feel
the turn-around more than others as well as praise the change with
more relief than others!
In the sky, Mars begins February at the point of contact where our
plans first ‘hit the pavement’ of our lives. This is the area of space in
between and at the tips of the celestial horns of the Great Bull of
Heaven. Mars’ position now slightly favors the star El Nath, the ‘upper
horn,’ the one more strongly driving things. El Nath is associated with
the pointer where the great force of the Bull aims, suggesting large
degrees of power or force, which can be used to benefit or not. It’s
associated with acts of strongly asserting what you want, such as in
warfare. With Mars’ turn-around right at the point of contact or ‘attack’
of the Horns, we may see acts of aggression (aka ‘terrorism’) which
may have been in planning for some time (Mars retrograding back
here before moving out again). On the individual level, how are you
holding back from what you aspire to? or, how are you being ‘bull-
headed’ perhaps thinking there’s only one way to get there?
As February proceeds, we will see Mars literally emanate out of the
horns, suggesting another understanding of this issue’s opening
paragraph: February is a time for a balanced combination of
resources and brave effort when engaging in life.
For the entire month astrologically, Mars in Gemini will enjoy a trine
to the NorthNode in Aquarius (and sextile to the SouthNode in Leo),
amidst his aspects with other planets. In the element of Air, this
trine lets us in on what might otherwise remain a secret: focus on
increasing your understanding of how things interact with one another
and share them with others in any form you wish. Communication
and dissemination are important now. Apply this to your situation,
devote yourself to taking next steps, and remain realistic about
where you really are in the process, and your actions now most likely
will have long-reaching, positive effects for the future. This might be
imagined as buying extra vegetables one day because you’re
inspired to do so, only to find a few days later that those extras are
exactly what your neighbors need for their delicious recipe, while an
invitation to join them in their feast shortly arrives at your door.
Look for perhaps an altogether different type of invitation from the
5th through the 8th coming your way, either physical or energetic.
When it arrives, RSVP immediately, as it may represent a restating
of an inner commitment you made or need to make. This aspect is
one demanding a full body, focused “Yes”.
On the 14th, Mars and the Sun will trine letting us know that we
should have all the energy we require. If on the other hand you are
the type to be more boisterous in your energetic persona already or
have difficulty controlling how your energy moves or mind chatters,
this is a day which may temporarily exacerbate those states. Of
course, knowledge of them is the first important step in learning to
balance them within.
February’s Feminine
February will see our Feminine Knowing informing us on how we are
to 1. gather the resources, and 2. act from that stockpile of wisdom
(as described in the opening paragraph of this issue).
In the Venus Journey, the depiction of how the Sacred Feminine is
evolving through us, we find ourselves in the middle of the Queen’s
Descent Phase (see graphic). This phase is a time for intentionally
surrendering what we do not actually need to hold onto. These aren’t
possessions necessarily, but traits we believe – either consciously or
subconsciously – that we require in our life.
The Venus Journey
This month through April we are practicing letting go of the
inessentials, such as that old dusty belief that you’re not ______
enough (fill in yours) to realize your dreams in this very lifetime.
February’s surrendering is that of authority. This means you can
participate in Her Journey in a personally-relevant way by looking at
how you either give away or egoically protect your authority, or what
you believe it to be. By self-assessing in this way, the process of
surrendering can be quite graceful as you come to see the irrelevance
of those old underpinning beliefs. Pay attention specifically from the
13-15th for any karmic lessons or mirroring people that may arrive.
If so, address them with the clearest, most incisive level of honesty
you can muster and then act on releasing them in a new and fresh
space of loving self-authority.
Astrologically, Venus is in the sign of Capricorn. This fascinating
aspect of the Goddess is the Matriarch archetype – wise, responsible,
strongly discerning, deeply loving, hard-working, responsible,
authoritative, and leadership driven. Capricornian Femininity knows
how any group needs to work internally to reach its goals externally.
She is masterful in this way largely due to Her intrinsic and startling
depth – of feeling, of sensuality, of commitment.
Visually, Venus’ body begins the month dramatically conjunct Jupiter
in the constellation of the Archer. Why dramatically? For starters,
Jupiter is strong here as the Archer’s long reach or ‘aim’ of attention
can carry Jupiter’s drive to get bigger, make more and expand.
Secondly, Venus and Jupiter make a very close pass to one another.
In ancient Mesopotamia, this line-up’s orientation, with Venus just
above Jupiter would inform the sky-priests that their precious King
was currently not under threat from the Prince as Venus was seen as
keeping an eye over him. Today, we might read this that a Feminine
voice will prevail in political matters having to do with long-range
plans of state. Remember, this voice need not be that of a woman,
but simply one which offers a perspective which is more inclusive,
ordering and relational, all Feminine qualities. Finally, this potent
pair will meet in that space between the Archer’s intense focus on his
target and the arrow’s tip drawn and ready in the bow. What are we to
make of this? An amalgam of energies such as this suggests that
long-range plans now gain support and we feel the enthusiasm for
them rising. While we need not act yet necessarily, we would do well
to remember that such resonant plans require follow-up to see them
through: living on ideals isn’t sufficient any longer. Because planets-
with-stars have direct correlation to world events, I can envision this
as a time when heads of state are planning the next 6- and 12-
months of their regime, some of which may fall prey during that time
to over-aggrandizing their position and becoming too aggressive with
their neighbors or enemies. In the US, presidential hopefuls may
find this time one of great planning and strategizing for success.
Interestingly, the last time Jupiter and Venus commingled so closely
in this particular sky location, two history-making events occurred,
clear reflections of the Venus-Jupiter symbol of “Feminine
teacher/leadership”: the first and second US female governors ever
elected each entered office. They were Nellie Tayloe Ross in
Wyoming on Jan. 5 1925 and Miriam (Ma) Ferguson in Texas on
Jan. 20, 1925.
