Before diving into March’s outlook, a short word of explanation
about the terms “feminine” and “masculine.” These terms refer to
the implicit, underlying principles within all creation, rather than to
gender. We can see these principles in everything our minds can
focus on: people in our lives, weather patterns, market trends,
psychological traits, relationship habits, and more. Everything in
creation is composed of the Primal Pair of Femininity and Masculinity
formed together in unique ways. Again, gender is not implied when
you see these words used. With that, welcome to…
The Mars Journey
Our Sacred Masculine through April & May 2008
April begins with the Crisis-in-Destiny Phase in the Mars Journey.
This is one of the most misunderstood periods (and therefore traits)
in the Mars Journeys. The “crisis” at work here is an important step
toward later empowerment. It is an evolutionary necessity as it forces
change, better ways of approaching life and breakdowns of the
patterns of projection, hopelessness, frustration and blame. Where
the first Crisis Phase in the Mars Journey is one focused on personal
identity (see the diagram above), this one has a broader scope: our
very destiny is in crisis…or so we would do well to investigate for
ourselves! You see, to legitimately move in the direction of our
destiny necessarily demands a price be paid. The price need not be
heavy, only personally relevant. And what determines the relevance of
a price to be paid for our destiny to be realized? Any and all beliefs
and assumptions which block our easy and graceful fulfillment of that
very destiny! That’s right, if it’s not easy yet we know it’s the right
thing to do or at least it’s in the right direction, then rest assured
there is something inside of us stubbornly holding out. Such
obstacles are never outside of us, as we are the ones drawing the
experience to ourselves out of the quanta to manifest in the visible
world.
The Crisis-in-Destiny Phase is the window in which we as a collective
(and thus on a personal level too) get to examine what is required
for our current mission, goals, or dharma to be actualized from this
point forward, and also how our current self-image is preventing such
actualization from occurring. For this reason, watch for indecisiveness,
stop-and-start behaviors, increased frustration because the plan
seems just too darn difficult, or hopelessness because you “just don’t
have what you need.” You have exactly what you need, relative to the
point in the process you are now no matter what you believe about
where you are in the process! Once again, you have exactly what you
need to take the next step or two.
The Crisis-in-Destiny Phase is crucial as it grants us a potent
opportunity to go deeper in ourselves and our assumptions about
what our life purpose actually is. It serves to remove any remaining
veils of illusion, such as latent narcissism, evolutionary laziness,
spiritual entitlement and plain ole’ fashioned fear of the unknown.
In private practice, I regularly see Souls born during the Crisis-in-
Destiny Phase of the Mars Journey come up against their own
patterns of blocking or sabotaging important life steps they need to
make. They are ‘wired’ to face this resistance in themselves only so
long as they come to discover greater self-empowerment as a result.
By April 7th, we will shift into the very beginnings of the next Mars
Journey Phase, known as the Service Phase, one of the two longest
Phases in the Mars Journey. The Service Phase is where our collective
Masculine development ‘hits the street’ with respect to significantly
improving things, making substantial contributions to the benefit of
others, and to forwarding any personal or social efforts aimed at
improvement of the collective condition. Personally, Mars’ Service
Phase is when we learn how service-capable and willing we actually
are to devote more of ourselves to a better We and a better world.
In the early part of the Phase we take our first steps applying and
distributing our: knowledge, resources, skills, leadership, followship,
inventions and innovations. As a result, we gain immediate feedback
about ourselves: Are we still holding to a preset agenda about how
things should happen? Are we losing the trees for the forest or the
other way around? Have we fallen into assuming there is no
contribution to others or the world we are meant to bring? For those
who have already found their Sacred Life-Service (which does not
have to look like anything, it simply has to ring one’s Heart-tones
with a resounding YES), the Service Phase delivers deeper
experiences of connection with the collective efforts at growth. We
discover tremendous, exhilarating, open happiness at the gift of
immersing ourselves in our dharma. Such times can be profoundly
liberating and healing not only from the current life but prior to it.
For the first half of April while Mars traverses tropical Cancer nearly
every other planet will position itself in Aquarius or Pisces. As these
two signs are the most transcendent in the zodiac, it leads to a sense
that whatever it is we are destining toward in our lives brings with it a
transcendent, other-worldly, or next-worldly implication. With a
different lens, we see Aquarius having something in common with the
Service Phase in their shared focus on a better future, following our
divine inspiration toward improved social, governmental and even
political conditions and heightening the effects of the unique legacies
only we can leave.
The short window between the 21st and the 25th will not be short on
activity! Use this energy of Mars-Uranus, Mars-Jupiter and Mars-
Venus to reach for the highest, most enjoyable and furthest reaching
success. With Mars as our function to ‘go for it,’ joining energies with
Uranus, Jupiter and Venus in this short span of time, be ready for a
quick burst of activity which you can prepare for with meditation,
strength-training and energy-based inner practices such as Taoist
alchemy, chakra work, non-sexual Tantra, Kundalini yoga and others.
Then on the first of May, “May Day” earns its infamous name,
astrologically at least. Interestingly, May 1 may be a day of
‘confusion’ or forgotten promises, or missteps in some fashion. Not
to worry, intrepid Souls! Use this unique Mars-quincunx-
Neptune/NorthNode configuration to have a day of irresponsible and
playfully active spontaneity while avoiding forming any serious-
sounding conclusions or resorting to any ship-abandoning cries.
A look at the Visual Astrology(1) for April and May adds important
factors for us. Mars occults the star Mebsuta, the knee star of the left
Twin (aka Castor), and crosses the upper right arm of the right Twin,
known by his/her prominent star Pollux. (See the Feb/Mar issue of
Awakenings Magazine for a description of Mars’s meet-up with
Mebsuta). This trajectory is not consistent each time Mars comes this
way – each 25 months or so Mars’ path through the Twins will change
so there’s specific information here if we choose to look…..up! It
suggests that the right skills – both inner and outer – will greatly
serve us, not only in how we respond to what Life delivers but also for
the longevity of what we are striving for. This particular track Mars
carves across the terrain of the Twins, who philosophically represent
Duality in all creation, calls out the need to source one’s heart and mind
in a positive outcome before one begins, but seek pragmatism each step of
the way toward success. In other words, do not harbor illusion in our
efforts, either the illusion that you will not succeed or that success will
come only from a carefully-constructed plan perfectly executed.
Through May, the Direct One (aka Mars) inserts himself into the
region of our sky populated by the stars of the Crab. From two
ancient mythologies pertaining to this constellation, those of the
Chaldeans 4000 years ago and the Egyptians a bit later(2), we
understand the Crab to represent the involution of souls into the
material realm.(3) It will be useful to ask, How we are entering the
present by our actions in the past: Are we prepared? Are we open? Do we
have the skill to see what Life is presenting us? Recall the scene from
the third movie of the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy in which a vast
current of individual crabs impossibly carry a huge ship from the
middle of a desert basin all the way to the ocean. Crabs tell us they
may exist in this world as physical beings, but the way they look and
how they move in physicality bespeak another world, another plane of
consciousness. In this light, crabs are dimensional bus drivers or
threshold-crossers.
For us, we may find May to be a time of being carried by the
momentum (or lack of it) of what we’ve built before. Up to May 25th
or 26th is the developing phase, where we further clarify what our
contribution to the world could or should be, based in our Deep Heart.
On those days arrives the pinnacle experience of certainty or actua
distribution of what we’ve developed up to that point. This can take
shape as thorough clarity about the path ahead or as specific means
to fulfill what we have understood for some time.
April and May are also months for substantial or important writing or
communication to manifest, for different reasons. In April, Mars is
with the Twins, the representation of duality and manifestations that
attempt to make sense of duality, such as writing, reading and
learning. Duality however cannot be ‘made sense of’ through the
mind only. Such a task requires the higher mind, the non-intellectual
mind, which relies on a strong foundational intellect. Then in May,
while Mars is precisely poised at the heart of the crab, Mercury the
Messenger is just as precisely positioned in between the horns of the
Great Bull…the exact location of Mars when he stationed direct in
February! This co-incident – Mars and Mercury – adds an important
wash of understanding as it symbolizes that what we will be
communicating needs to be said and said strongly and clearly, yet
without dogma or any residue of the right-wrong no-win game.
Our Divine Feminine through April & May 2008
The Venus Journey
First the big picture: April and May will see a lot of activity for further
deep changes in how our depth informs our outer life as Venus
approaches the Underworld Phase while also forming extremely tight
aspects to a number of other planets simultaneously.
Back in February, The Soul’s Desire reported: “This month through
April we are practicing letting go of the inessentials, such as that old
dusty belief that you’re not ______ enough (fill in yours) to realize
your dreams in this very lifetime.”
So, how are you doing with your “purging of inessentials”? April 4th
has us in the final of six Surrenderings which the Great Goddess
undertakes, the Surrendering of Her (our) Spaciousness. It’s at this
time Venus is conjoined by a Balsamic (last phase) Moon in late
tropical Pisces. So, just what exactly is feminine spaciousness, and
why does it appear we have to surrender it?
The ‘space of the feminine’ is the void found within any container. It
is the implied vastness of interiority. Modern science has a name for
this: the quantum realm. If we have ever found ourselves in a deep
depression, this is one manifestation of feminine spaciousness: when
we are depressed it is as if we are in a never-ending, unchanging
state of ‘grayness’ or darkness of spirit. Likewise, feminine
spaciousness can just as equally take form as our ecstasy and bliss,
the sensually-pleasing flow of energy throughout our body aligning us
to our Soul. These two very different experiences – depression and
ecstasy - are merely different content populating our feminine
spaciousness, or the emptiness of form. It is important not to
confuse interior spaciousness with the content of the space at any given
time.
From this we see that April is a period for facing our fear of any
uncertainty about how deep we actually can go and surrendering the
patterns of avoidance or denial of our outer life, our social needs. In
light of the proximity of this celestial meet-up of Venus and the Moon
to Venus’ disappearance into the rays of the Sun at sunrise, strongly
recommended practices would include:
* Laying on the Earth, connecting with Her mysterious depths and
consciously breathing yourself into and out of any fear which arises;
or
* Placing your body into water (bath, ocean, lake), becoming
completely still and somatically (bodily) imagining the water to flow
into you and you into the water.
Both these experiences will potentiate a cellular alignment with this
month’s final Surrendering in the Queen’s Descent Phase (April 4).
On April 7th, newly-arrived in Aries Venus then moves into square
with Pluto and quincunx with Saturn. When Venus forms physically-
observable aspects to other planets (symbolizing our psychological
and social levels) which directly echo the precise themes at play in
the greater Venus Journey (symbolizing our collective consciousness
level), the synchronicity between them resounds in every cell of our
body. Such a synchronicity is now occurring.
From the latter half of April through all of May, we will have any
fixation or need of security challenged. This may be a new level of
contraction you’re asked to breathe into and love yourself beyond, or
familiar patterns which are enjoying their last hoorah through you.
From a different view, this period will be tremendously empowering to
those creations of yours which are heart-aligned and true and
probably those you are already involved in. In either case, the square
from Pluto along with the ‘missing’ quincunx from Saturn can produce
the feeling of being adrift at sea without sufficient wind-force for
one’s sails(4). All this, while something pulls you deeply inside, closer
and closer to the very source of your own life force.
This inward pull is not only due to the Pluto-Venus square, which
operates on personal and mundane (conscious) levels. I believe its
source to be Venus’ visible disappearance in our skies, the celestial
‘event’ marking the Transmutational Underworld Phase of the Venus
Journey (super-conscious level). We’ll be examining this Phase and
its implications for us in next month’s issue (June/July 2008), but
that unique and altogether strange reality will start rolling in now.
Focusing on May 18th, we see Venus well ‘gone’ from our view (too
close to the Sun) while reaching exact square to the lunar nodal axis,
exact trine to Jupiter, and exact sextile to Uranus. The exactitude of
these Venutian aspects plays a strong role here. Clearly in the
Underworld yet still descending deeper (until June), our Femininity is
undergoing a radical transfiguration of its relationship with the
knowable Feminine self or Body of the World.
For most of May, Venus is in tropical Taurus now, the sign of primal
fertility, the Goddess of Sensuality and the inner ground of our tantric
life. It is from this place that she forms the aforementioned aspects
(to the Nodes, Jupiter, and Uranus). This is a time in which we can
make a major leap into embodying our greatest vision and wisdom by
facing in ourselves the blockages to its fulfillment and allowing the
changes to move us organically. This triple relationship is quite
energetically complex so to dial in to its personal relevance for you, a
look at your personal horoscope along with the current picture can be
helpful. Perhaps even more helpful is a personal session with a
trained astrologer.
Through May, Venus will be ‘slipping forward’ within the innards of the
Great Bull of Heaven. “Slipping” because she now approaches the
underworld in her collective Journey, and “forward” because she is
progressing from the back to the front of the Bull constellation. Also,
this is the swiftest speed Venus reaches throughout Her entire 19-
month Journey: she is moving at her maximum velocity through space. This intriguing image, that of slipping forward, is an apt picture
for this time. It is as if we are being pulled ahead by the momentum
of evolution generically but specifically by the steps we’ve put into
motion since November. And it will produce a fundamental change in
how we move in the world, how we relate to our body, and how Soul-
ready we are to embrace our deeper truth.
